Oliver Masciarotte Biography

This bio is largely copied from Oliver's company's web site, Seneschal

Oliver A. Masciarotte is a 22 year veteran of the professional audio and digital production industries. He has been involved with DVD-A and SACD since before the formats had names.

After finishing his schooling at the Lowell Institute of MIT, he worked for leaders such as dbx, ads, Lexicon, Criteria Recording and Neotek. While at Analog & Digital Systems in 1977, he had the opportunity to work on the world's first consumer digital audio product, a reverberation synthesizer. After his stint at ads, he worked for Lexicon on their first generation of professional digital reverb, the 224.

Moving into production, he was hired as staff engineer at Criteria Recording in South Florida, where he engineered a Grammy award winning recording and worked on a broad range of gold and platinum hits. During that time in South Florida, he became a Staff Lecturer at the University of Miami, Coral Gables in the Music Engineering department. Mr. Masciarotte mentored several current industry captains through their formative years before leaving for Chicago. At the Optimage division of Philips NV, he worked with a small team of engineers on first generation authoring tools for CD-i, the ancestor of DVD and the first digital optical distribution format. His time in The Windy City also provided the opportunity to use a then-new product, CD-R.

After leaving Philips, he was hired as the 12th employee by a small company in San Francisco involved in pioneering desktop CD production and restoration systems, Sonic Solutions. He held the positions, first of Support, then Training Manager at Sonic prior to forming dHouse. The dawn of DVD saw his founding of, along with industry veteran Gary Hall, the first independent full service facility for DVD production, dHouse. After leaving his creation in capable hands, he has concentrated on consulting and engineering for new media with his current company, Seneschal.

Oliver is a contributing editor of Surround Professional, columnist for Mix magazine and an active member of the San Francisco chapters of the SMPTE and NARAS. Seneschal is a member of the Apple Solution Experts network.

For the past 10 years, Mr. Masciarotte has been helping new media practitioners make the most of their investment in production equipment and time. Past clients range from radio and television broadcasters to international law enforcement agencies.
