What's New
We've made some changes to the site. We're trying a 'weblog' style format. What this means for you is that you are now able to subscribe to our RSS feed using your favourite newsreader. It's a great way to know when the site has been updated with information without having to check the home page. In addition we'll be posting items to the site that may be of interest to our members. Many of these items will simply be audio related news items along with links to stories on other websites.
We are also going to experiment with posting Toronto area news items. We often get requests from companies to pass on information to our members about meetings and promotional events. The theory is that by posting the item to our site and making that item available via our RSS feed that we will be providing a non-intrusive service. We won't clutter up your in box. But you will be able to opt in to getting information about upcoming events in the Toronto area. Again you can do this by checking the website regularly, or even better, by subscribing to our RSS feed.
RSS
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. There are many articles singing the praises of RSS, so all I'll say right now is: "You want it. Really, you do."
Here's a fine article with an overview of RSS and some of the software clients available.
On the Mac I recommend NetNewsWire. On most any platform there's Firefox, a web browser with a built-in RSS newsreader. There's a more complete list of clients at Google's directory (you may be surprised to see how many there are).
Subscribe
You can subscribe to the Toronto AES RSS feed by copying the following link and pasting it into your newsreader. http://www.vex.net/TorontoAES/rss.xml
Alternatively - and this is true any time you see an orange XML icon or perhaps a blue RSS icon - you can control-click (Mac) or right click (Windows) on the orange XML icon, select the 'copy URL' option, and paste that into your newsreader.
Search
You can search all of the pages on this site with the Google search engine. Enter your text in the field near the upper right corner of each page.
