In an era where technological advancements are revolutionizing every aspect of our lives, the field of audio engineering stands at the forefront of innovation. This event will delve into the fascinating world where machine learning, automation, and AI converge to shape the future of sound.
Join us for a dynamic exploration of the latest developments, moving beyond the buzzwords to discuss cutting-edge research and real-world applications. A distinguished panel of experts will explore the profound impact of these technologies, from production workflows to the very nature of creativity and intellectual property.
Key topics will include:

Damian Kearns
Proprietor at 217 Audio
Damian is an extremely creative, versatile audio engineer. Though he specializes in post production for television and movies, Damian has many promotional, pre-production, production and presentation audio projects to his credit. He has written extensively for the major industry website https://www.production-expert.com, edits scripts, administered lectures/workshops, has appeared on-screen, on radio and performed character voiceover. Damian has always been picked first by his employers to advance new workflows and technology. in the past, he was CBC Toronto’s de facto in-house Pro Tools trainer. Damian has been among the most valued employees everywhere he has worked and is in high demand as a freelancer and sole proprietor of 217 Audio.
Recently, Damian has worked his mixing and editing magic on several indie films for Canadian and American clients, as well as a slew of commercials, lots of corporate content and two podcast series. Currently, he is collaborating with European clients and creatives on a feature length documentary on ancient Athens, in which he is both dialogue editor and sound designer. As a beta tester and consultant, Damian is working with developers behind such software as SpectraLayers Pro 12 and Waves Clarity Vx Pro. He’s also a contributor to production-expert.com. Damian often focusses on sound restoration in his work and as such, is sought out for his insight in this area.
Damian’s an ace sound designer. His work featured in PROMAX GOLD and PROMAX silver award winning commercials. Damian has open sourced his 5.1 and stereo Pro Tools templates for use by any and all.

Jeff Wolpert
multi-award-winning engineer, mixer, producer and educator
A multi-award-winning engineer, mixer, producer and educator Wolpert has worked with some of the biggest names in today’s entertainment industry. A graduate of Concordia University in Montreal (BFA Studio Music), Wolpert went on to earn his Master of Music Degree in Sound Recording (Tonmeister) from McGill University in 1982.
Upon graduation, he joined Inception Sound where he helped build it from one 8-track into two 48-track studios. He then became the chief engineer at McClear Pathé Recording Studios, a five-studio multi-format recording and mixing facility. Since 2012 he has been the owner of the Dolby ATMOS Music certified multi-room facility Desert Fish Studios located in downtown Toronto and has won 3 JUNO Awards for Recording Engineer of the Year. He is the Director of the Master in Music Technology and Digital Media graduate program at the University of Toronto as well as Professor of Immersive Audio at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy.
Wolpert has toured the world several times producing, recording and mixing for Canadian and International artists such as Loreena McKennitt, Herbie Hancock, Kola Loka and many others as well as over 200 film scores and countless television episodes. Known for his mastery of recording and intricate mixing, Wolpert is also recognized for his vast musical, organizational, technical and computer knowledge.

Michael Nunan
Multi-disciplinary specialist in Production and Post-Production Sound
A 30+ year veteran of the Television and Audio industries, Michael is a multi-disciplinary specialist in Production and Post-Production Sound, with emphasis on multi-channel acquisition, editing, sound design and mixing.

Noah Mintz
Senior Mastering Engineer
Noah Mintz is a Senior Mastering Engineer at Lacquer Channel Mastering. With over 25 years audio experience specifically and exclusively in professional mastering, Noah’s philosophy has always been “less is more.” with a strong emphasis on “vibe”.
From the time Noah bought his first four very diverse record albums; Talking Heads, Men Without Hats, Def Leopard and Lionel Ritchie, he’s been as much interested in how music sounds as in the songs themselves.
After the demise of the 90’s touring band hHead in which Noah was a co-founder and songwriter, Mastering was the natural progression. In 1998 Noah opened Toronto’s only boutique dedicated mastering studio, Grandmasters. In 2001, Noah moved Grandmasters into Lacquer Channel Mastering and within 5 years
became co-owner with Lacquer Channel’s other senior engineer Phil Demetro.
Since 1996 Noah has been championing that mastering is as much about how music makes you feel as it is how it sounds. He’s also been responsible for numerous published articles on mastering and sound as well as having developed a technique for embedding high quality MP3s on a CD called enhanced MP3.
Noah has mastered 1000’s of albums and his sonic signature has been left of some of Canada’s most accomplished musical releases including; Broken Social Scene, Hayden, Great Big Sea, Sarah Slean, Death From Above 1979 and Sarah Harmer.
