Bringing Surround Sound Home

DTS joins SurroundView 96

As of 3:00 PM today (23 May 96) we can confirm that DTS has joined SurroundView 96. You can find out more about DTS at their homepage.

DTS has a surround playback system for theatres but what we will be hearing at SurroundView is DTS's efforts to bring the music industry into the surround sound movement. We will hear brand new (2 weeks old) mixes of songs by Seal and Boyz to Men. The mixes are played back using a specially prepared CD on a standard CD player. The digital output is sent to DTS's decoder. The output of this device is 5.1 discrete channels of audio. Some high profile audiophiles are giving DTS very high marks for the transparency of their compression scheme and the concept of surround sound for music.

We have classical music with John Eargle from Delos and we have Sound for Picture with Brad Hohle from Dolby. With DTS we are covering the pop music industry. Should be a good show!
