A consortium of record labels, including the major music companies EMI, Sony/BMG, Universal and Warner, is moving ahead with a plan to introduce the new DualDisc format later this year, discs with regular CD audio on one side, and high-resolution audio and multimedia content (DVD-Audio and video) on the other (CNET NEWS, 24-Aug-2004) [DVD Audio Daily]

The major music labels seem to think it's just the thing to spur consumer acceptance of high resolution audio discs, but it seems more likely it will turn out to be yet another bonehead move by the music companies (AudioWorld, 26-Aug-2004) [DVD Audio Daily]

After months of market testing, controversy, and potential legal issues, four large music labels (EMI Music, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and 5.1 Entertainment Group/Silverline Records) have announced the official launch of the DualDisc into the mainstream consumer market.
