Ronald Kessel, PhD, holds degrees in Engineering and Physics. He has over 18 years’ experience in maritime defence science and technology—including 6 years at Defence R&D Canada and, most recently, over 8 years at the NATO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE, Italy). He has created and led many projects for improved maritime capability in response to Canadian and NATO future capability requirements, including many technology demonstrations and modelling & simulation, on topics such as defence against terrorism, maritime force protection, counter piracy, non-lethal weapons, maritime security, mine-counter measures, counter IEDs, automatic target recognition, decision support, and tactical gaming. He currently works independently as a consultant in maritime defence science & security.
